Volleyball Shut Out New England College
MCLA notched their fifth win in their last six games with a non-conference win over NEC this evening.
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) Women's Volleyball team swept past New England College (NEC) on Tuesday by a score of 3 sets to 0.
THE BASICS:

- Records: New England College Pilgrims 2-6 (GNAC 0-0) | MCLA Trailblazers 7-3 (MASCAC 0-0)
- Series History: NEC now leads the all-time series 4-3, including a 3-2 win last season on September 17th in Henniker. The Pilgrims also won the first-ever meeting of the teams by a score of 3-1 in North Adams.
HIGHLIGHTS
- MCLA completed the sweep in three sets by scores of 25-16, 26-24, and 25-22.
- The Trailblazers dominated the first set thanks to a 9-0 run that started with a Caroline Schmaling (Halifax, MA) kill and finished with a pair of kills from senior outside hitter Audrey Melson (Champlin Park, MN).
- The second set saw MCLA rally back from a 17-9 hole before facing six consecutive set points. The Trailblazer would end up taking the second frame 26-24, aided greatly by four kills senior outside hitter Elizabeth Brown (Lee, MA).
- The third set was back and forth with an early lead change and four ties before MCLA closed the set out 5-2 run.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Melson tallied a team-high nine kills and a pair of assisted blocks to share the Trailblazer team lead with Kaelynn Greeley (Corona, CA) at 10 total points. Greeley reached the total behind seven kills and three service aces.
- NEC's Samantha Winters had a game-high 10 kills while Kristina Cardello led all players 18 digs. MCLA's junior libero Beth Harris (San Antonio, TX) paced the Trailblazers with 17 digs, including eight in the opening set.
- MCLA's Shannon O'Brien (Unionville, CT) had a team high 13 assists, followed by sophomore setter Addison Decaro (Eagle River, AK).
UP NEXT:
On Friday, MCLA will be back in action when they play host to SUNY Delhi for a non-conference matchup with the Broncos in the Amsler Campus Center Gymnasium. The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
