Volleyball Rally to Take Down Worcester
Elizabeth Brown and Kaelynn Greeley combined for 25 kills to lead MCLA their second MASCAC win this evening.
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The MCLA Volleyball team traveled east to Worcester State for a MASCAC matchup with the Lancers. Following a highly competitive first set that went to the hosts, the Trailblazers rallied to win the next three sets to secure their second conference win of the season.
THE BASICS:

- Records: MCLA Trailblazers 10-3 (MASCAC 2-0) | Worcester State University Lancers 4-11 (MASCAC 1-1)
- Series History: Worcester State leads the all-time series 31-12. The teams split their matchups last season with Trailblazers winning the regular season finale 3-2 in North Adams on November 9th, before dropping their MASCAC playoff meeting three days later by a score of 3-0, also in North Adams. The teams first met on November 20, 1975.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Lancers took the first set 26-24 before MCLA stormed back, taking the next three sets by scores of 26-24, 25-14, and 25-21.
- The Trailblazers made the first set interesting, using a 5-0 run to square the set at 24-24 and forcing Worcester to use their second timeout only two points after their first. Reece Connors and Paige Thomason then closed the set with a pair of kills to put the hosts ahead 1-0.
- The shoe found itself on the other foot in the second set with MCLA breaking a 24 all tie with consectutive points to finish a set that had already included 10 ties and four lead changes. Elizabeth Brown (Lee, MA) had five of her game-high 15 kills in the second frame to set the pace for the Trailblazers.
- The third set was very different from either of the first two sets with the Trailblazers taking an early lead behind a set opening 7-2 run. Kaelynn Greeley (Corona, CA) and Brown each posted four kills in the penultimate set while Shannon O'Brien (Unionville, CT) had seven of her game-high 22 assists and MCLA's lone ace of the set.
- The final frame, while more competitive, still favored the road team and included three service aces by MCLA. The aces went to Brown, Madison Maloof (Amsterdam, NY), and Beth Harris (San Antonio, TX).
- Worcester State's Cassandra Millea finished the night with a game-high six service aces, including three in the pivotal second set.

On Tuesday, MCLA will be back in action when play host to Elms College for a non-conference matchup with the Blazers in the Amsler Campus Center Gym. The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
