WESTFIELD, Mass. — The MCLA Volleyball team took to the road this evening for a MASCAC clash of teams aiming for a first round by in the conference playoffs. The teams entered the match with matching 5-1 records in the MASCAC, trailing only Bridgewater State's 6-0 record. The teams each have one conference game remaining with the Trailblazers visiting Bridgewater on Monday and the Owls going to Worcester next Saturday. MCLA will go into their matchup with the first place Bears trailing Westfield for the first round bye following their 3-1 loss.

  • Series History: Westfield now leads the all-time series 46-4, including a 3-1 win by the Owls last season on October 1, 2024, in North Adams. The teams first met on November 24, 1975, in Westfield, with the results lost to time.

HOW IT WENT DOWN

  • MCLA stumbled out of the blocks, dropping the first set 25-12. Elizabeth Brown (Lee, MA) had four kills for the visitors while the Owls got a set-high five kills each by Hanna Nihill and Lauren Carnes.
  • The Trailblazers rallied back in the second frame for the closest set of the evening, winning the set 25-21 behind five kills each from Kaelynn Greeley (Corona, CA) and Audrey Melson (Champlin Park, MN). The set featured five ties and one lead change.
  • The third and fourth sets went the direction of the home team. The third set was the most back-and-forth of the night, featuring seven tie scores but no player recording more than three kills as Westfield won 25-16.
  • The fourth set saw five kills each by Melson for MCLA and Nihill and Carnes for the Owls. Westfield closed out the night with a 25-18 set that saw 16 assists by the home team's Morgan Dority.
