HIGHLIGHTS
- MCLA held a 20-11 edge in first-period shots, but the score sheets for both teams remained blank for the full time.
- The Trailblazers junior forward Luke Rhoss (Monroe, NY / Philadelphia H.C.) (5:06 of 2nd period, unassisted) changed that just over five minutes into the second period, intercepting a Worcester attempt to clear the puck from their defensive end, and firing off a wrister from between the face-off circles. The goal was his first of the season and the only goal for either team in the period. MCLA had a 12-9 edge in shots during the frame.
- Trailing by a goal, the Lancers stepped up their shooting in the third period, outshooting the Trailblazers 16-6 before finally solving the MCLA net minder on a power play as the clock clicked under three minutes remaining. Matt Lombardi (PP, 17:01 of 3rd period, assisted by Cam Quigley) was credited with the tying goal.
- After the teams played to a scoreless draw in overtime, the game went to a shootout. Anders Grongstad (Worcester), Rhoss (MCLA), and Christian Howanitz (Worcester) were all denied before the Trailblazers' junior forward Sean Schifferl (Fort Myers, FL / N.H. Monarchs) scored the first goal of the shootout. Freshman goalie Roco Stolz (Denver, CO / Charlotte Rush) then stoned the Lancers' Shane Prifrel to lock up the win for the home team.
