Cardoso Scores but Men’s Soccer Nipped by SUNY Poly, 2-1
MCLA’s Kyle Cardoso scored his first goal of the season, but the Trailblazers fell to SUNY Poly this afternoon, 2-1.
UTICA, N.Y.—The MCLA Men's Soccer team took to the road for their first game of the season away from the friendly confines of Shewcraft, heading west for a matchup with the SUNY Poly Wildcats at Wildcat Field. The hosts notched a pair of first-half goals and then limited the Trailblazers to a single second-half tally.

- Series History: SUNY Poly leads the all-time series 1-5-1, including a 2-0 win last year on September 29, 2024. The Wildcats also took the first-ever meeting of the teams by the score of 2-1 on September 8, 2012.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- SUNY Poly opened the scoring by converting a penalty kick in the 26th minute off the foot of Nazim Harizi.
- The Wildcats doubled their lead in the 32nd minute when Gavin Barth connected with an assist from LaEh Soe.
- MCLA got on the board in the 60th minute. Senior forward Jacob Malburg (Amesbury, MA) set up freshman forward Kyle Cardoso (Pittsfield, MA) for a dart at the top of the 18-yard box into the left side of the net. The goal was the first of Cardoso's collegiate career, while the helper was the first of the season for Malburg.
- The Trailblazers did have an opportunity at an equalizer in the 72nd minute, but Poly's goalie, Tyler Barth, turned away sophomore midfielder Brandon Balcazar's (Pittsfield, MA) bid for the upper right corner.
- Barth picked up the win, improving his record to 1-1-0 while recording three saves. Oliver Le Lacheur notched six saves but still took the loss for MCLA, falling to 0-2-0.
