HOW IT HAPPENED
- MCLA opened the scoring about 15 and a half minutes into the game. Senior Jacob Malburg (Amesbury, MA) started the play by taking a ball of the foot of an RPI player following a nonchalant pass by an Engineer near midfield. The Trailblazers' Noah Poulin (Coventry, CT) and Marcos Lopez (Albany, NY) each chipped the ball through the midfield, with Lopez rewarding Malburg for forcing the turnover. Lopez then slipped the ball between two defenders and to Malburg in stride about 30 yards from the goal. Malburg (16', assisted by Lopez and Poulin) then held off a defender and put the ball into the lower left corner of the goal.
- The MCLA lead would hold up until just before half time when the Engineers found an equalizer. The goal was credited to Ben Tymeson (44', Joshua Jarden).
- RPI then took a lead about 20 minutes into the second half on a goal by Olivier Szorc (65', Gavin Jell). The Engineers added an insurance goal with just over seven minutes off the foot of Noah Gregory (83', Szorc).
- Trailblazers' keeper Michael Harris (Adams, MA) made his first career start and stopped 11 shots but still saw his record drop to 0-1-0. RPI's Antonio Spina stopped two of the three shots he faced to improve to 2-2-0.
