Women’s Soccer Falls at Castleton
MCLA dropped a 5-0 non-conference road match to VTSU-Castleton this evening.
CASTLETON, Vt. — The MCLA Women's Soccer Team returned to the state of Vermont for their second matchup with a Vermont State University in less than one week. This time the trip north took them to Dave Wolk Field on the campus of VTSU-Castleton. The result would match Saturday's game at VTSU-Johnson, a 5-0 win for the host school.

- Series History: VTSU-Castleton now leads the all-time series 17-16, including a 4-1 win when the teams met last year on September 18th in North Adams. The Spartans also took the first-ever meeting of the teams, taking down the Trailblazers by a score of 3-2 in North Admas on October 19, 1985.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Castleton's Maggie McKearin had a hat trick in place before the teams took their half time break. McKearin netted her goals in the 4th minute (unassisted), the 18th minute (assisted by Paige Cargill), and the 30th minute (Cargill). Makenna Price stretched the home team's advantage to 4-0 with a goal in the 43rd minute (Maya Coviello).
- The owner of the first half helpers would then team up for the only goal of the second half when Cargill took an assist from Coviello in the 58th minute.
- Johnson scored two goals in the first half, both credited to Olivia Davis, with the first unassisted and the second aided by Ida Eames.
- The Badgers added three more second half goals, the first two by Moriah Stefanik which were assisted by Peyton Fairchild and Eames, respectively. The final goal was credited to Elizabeth Love with an assist for Jenna Jones.
- MCLA's Catelyn Hodge (Schenectady, NY) recorded two of the Trailblazers' three shots on goal. The other was by Gwendolyn Duggan (Palmer, MA).
- VTSU's Emma Ezzo authored a shutout to pick up her first win of the year, moving to 1-5-0. The Trailblazers' keeper duo of Destiny Alexandra Rivas (Leicester, MA) and Mallory Amirian (Haverhill, MA) combined for 11 saves with Rivas absorbing the loss to fall to 1-4-1.
