Volleyball Season Closes with Loss to Worcester State
MCLA dropped their MASCAC Playoff opener to Worcester State this evening.

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The MCLA Volleyball team welcomed the Worcester State University Lancers to the Amsler Campus Center Gymnasium for the quarter final round of the MASCAC Playoffs. For the second year in a row, it would be the Lancers that ended the Trailblazers season, taking the match in straight sets.
THE BASICS:

- Records: Worcester State University Lancers 10-20 (MASCAC 4-4) | MCLA Trailblazers 16-9 (MASCAC 5-3)
- Series History: Worcester State now leads the all-time series 32-12. The Trailblazers won the teams regular season meeting earlier this year by a score of 3-1 on October 1st in Worcester. The teams first met on November 20, 1975 with the results lost to history.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams traded points early before a five-point service run by Worcester's Beatrice Gamboa-Estrella put their team in front 9-6. The Trailblazers rallied back, getting within one point at 13-12, but never took the lead in the set again as the Lancers took the first set 25-20.
- Worcester State opened the second frame hot, opening the set with a 7-2 run. The Trailblazers slowly chipped away at that lead, eventually leveling the set at 13-13 but would never take the lead in the set, seeing the Lancers win the frame 25-22. WSU's Cassidy D'Esposito had a set-high seven of her game-high 12 kills in the set.
- The third set was the most competitive of the evening, seeing five ties and a lead change. MCLA tied the set at 14 all on a service ace from junior setter MaKayla Schuerer (Lee, MA). The Lancers responded with an 8-3 run before closing the set out at 25-22. MCLA's senior outside hitter Audrey Melson (Champlin Park, MN) had a set-high four of her team-high seven kills, while sophomore setter Addison Decaro (Eagle River, AK) had eight digs in the frame.
