HIGHLIGHTS
- If one were to look at the score sheet through the first three quarters of the game, one would see a very competitive game with the Trailblazers leading 10-6, but a deeper dive into those numbers would show that it was actually Mitchell College 6 and Andolina 6. The symmetry of the game was actually quite interesting, with the Mariners only matching Andolina through each of the three quarters.
- In the opening quarter, Anthony Andolina (Ballston Spa, NY) (13:38 remaining in the first quarter, unassisted & 13:02, assisted by Brierley) scored the first two goals of the game with just under two minutes off the clock.
- Mitchell's Killian Stvartak (11:30, Connor Comeau, & 10:29, unassisted) responded with two goals for the home team to level the score at two apiece. The Trailblazers then got their first non-Andolina scores of the game to close out the first quarter when Chase Kranz (Leominster, MA) (5:43, Roadcap) and Keegan Covello (Woodstock, CT) (0:01, unassisted) added two scores. The goal was Kranz's fourth of the season, while the assist was Ty Roadcap's (Troy, NY) sixth.
- The second quarter was played to a draw with two goals each by Andolina (8:24 remaining in the second quarter, unassisted & 6:25, Lewis) and Stvartak (8:00, Mahoney & 0:04, Mahoney) to send the game into the intermission with the road team leading 6-4.
- The third quarter introduced some new names to the scorers' table. MCLA's Neal Brierley (North Adams, MA) (14:09 remaining in the third quarter, Lewis) and the Mariners' Eric Rousseau (9:36, Mahoney) traded goals before Andolina (8:35, Hemstock) and Nathan Mahoney (7:27, unassisted) did the same.
- Just like the first quarter, the first quarter after the break saw MCLA score two unanswered goals to close the period; this time, the goals were notched by Andolina (3:56, unassisted) and Ty Roadcap (Ballston Spa, NY). The goal was the ninth of the season, and paired with his earlier assist made it his fourth multi-point game of the season.
- The Trailblazers stepped on the gas in the fourth quarter, pulling out to a 15-goal lead, keeping the home team off the scoreboard for 21 minutes and ten seconds of game time between Mahoney's goal at 7:27 of the third, and the game's closing Mahoney goal at 1:17 to play.
- On the other end of the field, while Mitchell was growing frustrated, the Trailblazers scored 11 more goals led by five by goals from Andolina (14:44 remaining, Brierley & 7:56, Kranz & 7:48, Covello & 5:16, Kranz & 3:29, unassisted), three by Carson Lewis (Barre, VT) (8:45, Hemstock & 6:49, Brierley & 3:42, Mageles), one by Covello (7:41, unassisted), and two more for Brierley (6:25, Andolina & 2:53, Mageles). The scoring run brought Andolina to 38 goals and nine assists, Lewis to 19 goals and 11 assists, Covello to four goals and three assists, Brierley to 21 goals and 12 assists, Kranz to three assists, Hemstock to five assists, and Mark Mageles (Denmark, ME) to three assists.
- MCLA's Quentan Polkowski (Marcellus, NY) stopped 16 of 23 shots on net to improve his record to 5-6. The Mariners' Cameron Haefs also made 16 stops but still fell to 0-13.
- Andolina's 11-goal output set a new program record, topping the eight goals that had been scored by Lewis earlier this season at Centenary, and a feat previously done three times by Nate Haley on February 26, 2023, against Mitchell, April 21, 2022, at VTSU-Lyndon, and April 23, 2022, against Thomas College.
