MCLA to host National Girls and Sports Day celebration

North Adams, MA- The MCLA athletics department will be hosting a National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration on Saturday, January 29th in the Amsler Campus Center gym.  The full day event (registration at 9:30am in the Amsler Campus center, 2nd floor) will begin with various clinics for both girls and adults in conjunction with the National Girls and Sports Day programs of “Play, Believe, Achieve”.   The event is free and open to the public.

Following the clinics, all participants will be guests of the Women’s Basketball program for their game against Worcester State University (3:30pm).  Following the game, there will be an autograph session with the Trailblazers.

MCLA has hosted the celebration for over 20 years and it has turned in to a very popular event.  The celebration traditionally draws between 60-75 girls annually.  The event is conducted by members of the MCLA athletic department, including coaches and players.  Clinics will be offered in the following sports:

Girls                  Adult Women
Basketball          Tennis 
Softball              Zumba Dance
Volleyball           Tai Chi

NGWSD began in 1987 as a tribute to Olympic Volleyball player Flo Hyman for her athletic achievements and her work to assure equality for women’s sports.  NGWSD is celebrated in all 50 states honoring the achievements and encouraging participation of girls and women in sports programs.
