Mike Ameen
MCLA director of Athletics, Scott Nichols, has announced that the department has hired Mike Ameen to be the next head coach of the Trailblazers Softball program. Ameen served as the programs assistant coach in 2010. Ameen will inherit a program after former head coach Kristin Parzych stepped down after serving as head coach for five seasons.
Ameen brings a wealth of experience to the program. He has been synonymous with youth softball for Northern Berkshire County over the last 30 seasons. He has been tied to many local high school programs as well, most recently serving as the head coach at Hoosic Valley High School. During the summer months, Ameen spear heads the Berkshire Blaze AAU softball programs. His programs have achieved high levels of success, competing in tournaments the last six seasons, including the National PONY league championships.
According to Nichols, “Mike is extremely passionate about the sport of softball and is an excellent teacher. He is going to be an outstanding addition to our coaching staff. In addition, he is well respected in the softball community having developed strong programs and his enthusiasm for MCLA will provide a great experience for his student-athletes both in and out of the classroom."
Ameen recently completed his degree from MCLA, graduating Summa Cum Laude, majoring in History while earning a minor in Political Science. He currently resides in North Adams with his wife Beverly, and two daughters, Carly and Hadley. Ameen has also been the board president of the Northern Berkshire YMCA since 2003.
The Mike Ameen era will officially begin in March 2011 when the Trailblazers compete in the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fl.
