The MCLA Athletic department has released the 2011-12 Women's Basketball schedule. The Trailblazers are coming off a 17-10 season, which saw them finished tied for 2nd in the MASCAC. MCLA earned a post-season berth for the second consecutive year as they were the sixth seed of the New England ECAC Women's Basketball tournament.
The 2011-12 season looks to be a promising one and the Trailblazers will kick off their season at St. Joseph's (CT) on November 16th. St. Joseph's was 19-7 last season in the GNAC. The Trailblazers will face Williams College in their home opener on 11/27. Williams was 21-6 last season and went to the NCAA tournament.
The Trailblazers head to the first of their two tournaments the weekend of December 2nd when they will play in the Norwich Invitational. MCLA will take on their second NESCAC opponent of the year when they face Bates College (17-8) in the opening round. MCLA continues their annual series with Union College on December 7th at home. MCLA closes out the first semester slate at home versus Smith on December 14th.
The Trailblazers return from the break and head right into the fire when they will play Southern Maine in the first round of the Southern Maine tournament on December 30th. Southern Maine is a perennial Little East power and went 18-11 last season and lost in the New England ECAC Final. Babson College who went 30-1 last season and UW-Stout out of the very tough Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference are the other two teams in the tournament. The Trailblazers have one final non-conference tune up on January 5th at home versus another local opponent in Southern Vermont College.
MCLA will open conference play at Salem State on January 10th. MCLA collides with Westfield State at home on January 17th pitting two of the top teams in the league the last few years against each other once again.
The Trailblazers will host senior day on February 11th versus Framingham State and closes the regular season at Bridgewater State on February 18th; a game that will no doubt have implications on the league race.
