MCLA to battle Westfield in rematch for MASCAC title
MCLA will travel to Westfield Saturday at 5pm looking to clinch the MASCAC Championship. The game is a rematch from one week ago.
The MCLA Women's Soccer team has earned a rematch with regular season conference champion Westfield State this Saturday in Westfield at 5pm. This time, a trip to the NCAA tournament and the MASCAC tournament championship is on the line.
The Trailblazers and Owls met one week ago with Westfield earning a hard fought 2-1 decision. With that victory, the Owls clinched the regular season title as well as the top seed in the MASCAC tournament.
MCL A would earn the third seed in the four team playoff. The Trailblazers knocked off second seeded Worcester State on the road 3-2 to clinch a berth in the final. Westfield hung on to beat fourth seeded Bridgewater 2-1.
With the victory over Worcester, MCLA set a school record for wins in a season notching their 14th of the year. Junior Jess Tietgens continues to excel as she tallied a hat trick in the semifinal. Tietgens has tied her own mark with 25 goals this season after setting the mark as a sophomore.
Westfield is led by MASCAC player of the year Meg Gearin. Gearin tallied a goal in the first meeting between the two teams. The Owls have not been defeated since opening day.
