MCLA Athletics Week in Review (2/16-2-22)
Both the Men's and Women's team qualified for the MASCAC Tournament. See how they played in their last two regular season games of the season.
Both the Men's and Women's Basketball team have qualified for the MASCAC tournament. The Women have earned a home game in the first round at the number four seed and will be hosting the number five team Framingham State. The Men have earned the number six seed and will be traveling to the number three seed Salem State.
The Women went 1-1 this week finishing out their season 15-9 overall and 4-8 in conference.
On Saturday, the Women's team traveled to Bridgewater State College where they fell 57-62 in their final regular season game. The Trailblazers lead most of the game and held a one point advantage with 4:15 remaining in the second half, but Bridgewater grabbed the lead at 3:33 and would not give it up the rest of the game. The Trailblazers placed four players in double-figures. Freshman Lucy Tremblay and Junior Molly Broda each scored eleven points apiece, while Sophomore Jen Wehner added 13 and Senior Jade Prickett added 14.
Tuesday they played host to Fitchburg State College and Fitchburg held a six point advantage at the half, but the Trailblazers rallied back on Senior Night to take home the 72-67 win. The win gave the program its most wins in a season with 15. Wehner had 17 points, while Tremblay added 24 of her own. The team celebrated three seniors: Jade Prickett, Laura Silverman, and Ali Leveille.
They will host Framingham State Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the playoffs.
The Men's team went 0-2 this week to finish off the regular season at 9-15 overall and 3-9 in conference.
Saturday the Men's team traveled to Bridgewater State, but came up short and fell 90-84. Bridgewater held an eight point lead at halftime and did not look back. Sophomore Chris Harris had 22 points and ten rebounds, while Junior Jon Greenberg had 25 points and 19 rebounds.
Tuesday the Men's team never lead against Fitchburg State and lost 72-60. Fitchburg had their lead to as high as 13 points in the first half. The Trailblazers brought the game to within one point in the second half, but they could not get over the hump and take the lead. Harris had 18 points, while Greenberg had 22 points and 16 rebounds.
Greenberg is 41 points away from scoring his 1,000th point.
They will travel to Salem State on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. start in the first round of the playoffs.
